A Margate Lifeboat. RNLB North Foreland is a Watson Class lifeboat, built by J Samuel White of Cowes, Isle of Wight. The vessel is of double diagonal timber construction.
Margate has celebrated nearly 150 years as a lifeboat station and over 10 awards for gallantry have been presented to the crew. The station has also seen tragedy with ten crew members losing their lives saving others at sea. The North Foreland lifeboat embodies the position of the county of Kent as the most south easterly corner of the British Isles and guardian of one of the busiest and most treacherous sea lanes in the world.
